Monthly Administrative Posting--RILGBT-NEWS --The address for all administrative requests is tinawood@cox.net (Tina M. Wood). Please do not post administrative requests to the list. --Please notify the listowner of any address changes (e.g., AOL screen names), or if you need to unsubscribe due to being away or losing net access (e.g., students). --The address to post to the list is: RILGBT-NEWS@listserv.brown.edu Please put it in your address book or alias file, as it is easy to get mixed up or forget. If you lose the address, you can send your post to the listowner at tinawood@cox.net, and she will repost it for you. --A digest version of the list is available. Subscribers who choose the digest version will receive one email per day which contains the text of all of the emails that were posted to the list that day. Otherwise, subscribers will receive individual emails as they are sent out. If you want to receive the digest version, you will need to send an email to: listserv@listserv.brown.edu The subject line is ignored, but the text is processed by a machine and thus must be written exactly as follows: set rilgbt-news html digest If you have trouble getting the digest option to work, email the listowner at tinawood@cox.net for help. --Although the listowner is involved with the Rhode Island Alliance for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights, the list itself is not owned by nor a project of the Alliance. Other organizations are encouraged to post news and announcements about their groups to the list. More than thirty different organizations have representatives on the list. We'd like to hear from more of you! --The list is for news/announcements about the Rhode Island lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and AIDS communities. It is NOT for discussion of any kind nor for items not directly related to Rhode Island or the surrounding sections of Massachusetts or Connecticut. To elaborate some on this: *Do not post national news items unless there is an explicit Rhode Island connection (e.g., a quote from one of RI's U.S. Congresspersons or Senators or another local personality). The one exception to this is that it is okay to repost LOCAL mainstream news stories or editorials about national items of lgbt/AIDS interest so that people can write letters to the editor if they like. Otherwise, do not post non-regional items, no matter how important you think they are. There are other lists for such items. If you need information about other lists, see http://www.qrd.org/qrd/electronic/email/ for pointers to information about many lgbt/AIDS email lists with various different focuses. We need to keep this list locally focused and low volume so that it is useful to the maximum number of local people. *Questions about local events or groups are okay if you cannot find the information another way (e.g., if it's not listed in Options, if the group does not have a direct phone or email contact, etc.) *Do not reply to the whole list if you are asking a question or making a comment about a post. Reply only to the sender, and ask them to post a clarification if necessary. *Editorial comments disguised as questions are a form of discussion and thus are not appropriate for this list. --Do not post file attachments. They take up far too much space, crash some email programs, and are unreadable to some subscribers. Also, do not post in HTML. Post only in regular text (ascii). If you can't figure out how to get your mail program to post in regular text, send your post to the listowner at tinawood@cox.net, and she will repost it for you. --On the rare occasion where it might be appropriate to send a reply to the whole list (in cases where you have additional information to add to a post), only quote back as much of the post as is necessary. Do NOT send the whole original post back to the list. --Commercial posts are not appropriate for this list. The only exceptions are announcements of fundraisers held by non-profit organizations or lgbt-friendly local political candidates. It is also okay to mention a business' name if that is the location of an organization's meeting. --The listowner reserves the right to remove disruptive persons from the list. --Please tell your friends about the list. Feel free to forward this post to them if you like. --Please send any questions to the listowner at tinawood@cox.net. Thank you for subscribing!
